My first visitors and my week at home...

We have had a lot of company and Gavin has enjoyed meeting all his family and friends!

May 23rd, 2009

Gavin George Tharan arrived at 2:23am on May 23rd after 22 hours of labor. Gavin weighed 8lbs 8oz and was 23 1/2 inches long. He was born exactly to the day of Kevin and I being married for 23 months. I don't know about you but Gavin might already have a lucky number.

For those of you that haven't heard we have a pattern of important dates that include the 23rd, here are a few:

April 23rd, 2005~ Kevin and I's first date

April 23rd, 2005~ Oliver, our dog, was born

December 23rd, 2006~ Engaged

June 23rd, 2007~ Married at Wild Flower Meadow Bed and Breakfast

We went to the hospital after my water broke on Friday May 22nd at 5:30am. I ran in the bedroom to tell Kevin with Oliver on my heels from the living room. Kevin jumped into gear and we got things together and we were off to UPMC Northwest. We arrived a little after 6am and I had begun having mild contractions. Since my water broke I was put on bedrest and hooked up to my IV and Strep antibiodic. Soon after they started pitocin and the contractions got rolling. In the late morning the contractions got pretty bad and they started some pain medicine and we continued waiting for baby Tharan. Eventually after slowly beginning to dialate I agreed to an epidural and then I really relaxed. The day progressed and baby was still a long time from delivery. I joked with my mother-in-law at about 10am that this little one was going to wait till the 23rd and we both thought that sounded a little crazy....turns out not so crazy at all!!

Around 1am on MAY 23rd (of course) I was ready to begin pushing!! My epidural had worn off on my left side so I had a bit of pain and absoultely no feeling on my right...very strange! I felt like I had very little control and was so exhausted and pushing was not super successful. At 2am the nurse told me if I focused in we could have the baby by 2:30, that was all I needed to hear. So after 22hours Gavin George Tharan arrived at 2:23am. I just couldn't believe that Kevin and I were finally parents to such an adorable little boy! What a special bond that formed between us and also us with our little man. There is nothing that can describe that instant connection and love.

Due date this week!

Well, Kevin and I went to the doctor this morning and were sad to find out that the baby has no intention of being born...at least not yet! So needless to say I was really disappointed because I can't wait to meet our baby. But the due date is still 2 days away so I can't really complain because the little one isn't even late yet. Hopefully, this week we will have our baby but if not we have another appoinment scheduled for next Tuesday. Any thoughts or prayers to encourage the little one to arrive would be greatly appreciated!

Come on already baby...it is time to meet you!!

I set my hopes pretty high and thought maybe we would be heading the hospital to meet baby after seeing the dr. today. However my body and baby Tharan have other plans! It looks like baby plans to stick around a little longer. As long as he/she doesn't take up permanent residence I can deal with a few more days. The anticipation is driving me crazy but apparently baby is warm and cozy being all smooshed in mom's belly. Maybe we will have our appointment next Monday morning, May 18th or maybe baby will be born on Grandma Wendy's b-day May 17th or Uncle John's b-day on the 16th. Who knows the stubborn little bugger (as stated by Dr. Fackler) might hold out for our due date the 20th and arrive on Bret's special birthday. Only time will tell!! Until then I am off of work and relaxing in excited anticipation of Kevin and I's bundle of joy! Hopefully, the next time I blog I will be sharing adorable baby pictures!! :)

Any day now....I hope!

Today we had our appointment with Dr. Ham and an ultrasound. Baby looked really healthy and put on quite the show again...moving all around! Baby weighed in at 7lb 9oz at 37 weeks 6 days. We have a nice healthy (BIG) baby on the way! Baby also has a full head of hair or so the ultrasound says; it is just so hard to believe because Kevin and I both just had peach fuzz. We go to the dr. again next Monday and at that point we might have the option to induce or hold out till baby is ready to come. All I know is I don't want to wait too long because I don't want to have a 9 or 10 lb baby.

Today eyes were mainly closed other than a few quick peeks

to see if mom and dad were still watching!
