That night things took a turn for the worse! At 1:30am Kevin and I were awoken by the sound of Gavin having his first round of the stomach bug. He was so scared and confused and it made us so sad and equally terrified. We jumped into gear...I took Gavin and got him calmed down and cleaned up, and Kevin had the awful job of cleaning Gavin's bedroom. I had no clue what you are supposed to do with someone so young so I called the on call dr. We took Gavin to our bed and cuddled him and tried to get him relax and sleep. I looked at Kevin and said "before this is over I know he will get sick on me". Sure enough my phone rang with the dr. on call and Gavin instantly got sick all over me. Kevin took over the phone call and got all the directions from Dr. Bishop. Once again we cleaned up and within no time Gavin fell back to sleep and so did Kevin. As soon as they were out "Geronimo" was up and wide awake. I tried to enjoy my evening of watching my boys sleep and feeling our new baby bounce all over the place.
Well wouldn't you know it the next day we were hosting our first Tharan Thanksgiving. What should we do host or cancel? How could we cancel dinner for everyone else? So we left it up to our company and they all decided to come. Gavin appeared fine by morning though he had no interest in eating. Dinner was prepared and the house readied and our guests arrived. We had tons of help with cooking and preparations from all of our family. It was so nice watching Gavin and Carter play together while we had time to enjoy visiting together. Our meal was wonderful and very filling. We concluded out evening with The Game of Things...a super fun game! It was so great to have the little boys at the table playing with their own flashcards while we enjoyed out game. They were able to entertain themselves and even play together with supervision.
Saturday we had a nice morning at home until it was time for Carter's first birthday party. Kami and Josh prepared such a nice party with great food. Carter was so sweet and touched by the singing of Happy Birthday. I just adored how he acted shy and tucked his head to the side like "oh geez thanks guys". While he seemed to like his cake and ice cream but it also made him shudder. He may have enjoyed playing with his dessert more but either way it was too cute. Next was gifts and Carter seemed so happy to receive all of his new toys. Gavin of course was way involved in the opening of presents...even a little too much. Thank goodness for such an understanding aunt and uncle who didn't mind letting Gavin sneak in and play with Carter's new toys. Gavin loved having free run through the Coursens house and ability to grab cheese and crackers at his free will. I would have to say my favorite part of the evening was watching Gavin and Carter play the piano together. These images below do a great job of capturing their fun together and super cute love for one another.
Happy 1st Birthday, Carter! We sure do adore you and cherish having you in our family!
Sunday I snuck off and did some morning shopping while Gavin and daddy had a nice morning at home. We had lunch together and then Gavin took his nap. I had more me time and went to a purse party. As I headed home to get ready for family holiday pictures I got a text from Kevin that he was now sick. I did my best to get home as quick as possible. When I got there I quickly saw how sick he really was and had no time to get a hold of our photographer. When April showed up we sadly let her know we would be unable to have her take photos. The rest of the day and evening Kevin spent very ill and Gavin and I spent time together.
Monday we spent more time letting Kevin recover. Our long weekend ended with a quick shopping trip and some groceries. While we didn't get out that much we sure did get a lot of quality time together and I wouldn't trade it for anything...(even Black Friday shopping and family photos...despite I was so sad at the time...I am over it and now see what was really wonderful about our holiday).
