Gavin really isn't feeling so great, poor guy is having a round of bad luck! He has had diarrhea for more than two weeks. We have been active in trying to figure out what is going wrong but sadly it has taken this long. We have been battling diaper rash as a result. Well, after taking stool cultures we received an answer from our pediatrician on Sunday. Which getting a call from the dr. office on a Sunday really throws a mommy and daddy into panic mode. Turns out Gavin has a bacterial infection most likely from consuming contaminated water but the cause may actually never be known. He has been exposed to a bacteria known as Yersinia or Ursinia, which Dr. Bishop had never seen before. Gavin has been prescribed Bactrim which he doesn't seem to mind. Unfortunately it causes sensitivity to the sun and we are headed to the beach this coming Saturday...sunblock, rashgaurd shirts and shade here we come! We have sent our water to be tested and are waiting for the department of health to ask about a million questions.
As if that wasn't enough....Gavin awoke Sunday morning with a rash all over his arms and legs. He had a fever Saturday morning which led into the rash. After visiting with Dr. Bishop this morning we learned he has hand, foot and mouth disease....poor kiddo! She asked if he had been a new place about five days previous and sure enough bad mom of the year took him to a playgroup last Wednesday, exactly 5 days before. I tried keeping toys out of this mouth but if you know Gavin I wasn't 100% successful. There isn't really much we can do but wait it out for 7-10 days. If the sores in his mouth begin to bother him we can swap with benadryl. He is still eating and hasn't lost weight considering everything his little body is fighting off. He has his moments where he just wants held and is whining but overall he is pretty happy.
This week my goal is to cuddle and comfort my boy and get him healthy so he can enjoy his vacation! Oh and I should mention Gavin is cutting multiple molars as well. He is one tough cookie, and mommy and daddy sure want to see their boy feeling better soon. Thoughts and prayers are much appreciated!
